Learn how to perform some common service/maintenance on your TPCA Series Clamp.

The clamp label has the information about your clamp on it. If you cannot read the label, or the label is missing, you can determine that your clamp is a BTM TPCA if it has both top and bottom mounts.

How to determine the size of a BTM TPCA Clamp without a label

The thickness of the clamp body can help to identify the size of a BTM TPCA clamp.


  • TPCA-42 = 40mm [1.57in]
  • TPCA-52 = 48mm [1.89in]
  • TPCA-62 = 54mm [2.13in]
  • TPCA-82 = 76mm [2.99in]

WARNING!

Before beginning, make sure the equipment you are working around has the proper safety lock outs applied and that you are aware and clear of all pinch points.

Note – Switch automatically adjusts to arm opening.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Cycle the Clamp to the CLOSED Position.
  2. Remove all Electric and Air Lines from the clamp.
    WARNING - Do NOT work on or around power clamps which have electric and air lines connected.
  3. Remove the cover plug on the cylinder end cap.
  4. Use the chart and a measuring scale to first identify the current amount of arm opening.
    Note the depth as it relates to the degree of arm opening on the chart.

  5. Next, use an 8mm Allen wrench to set the depth of the cushion to the desired amount of arm opening.
  6. Use the scale to confirm that the depth of the adjustment cushion is set for the desired amount of arm opening.
  7. Replace the cover plug, reattach the airlines and cycle the clamp to verify clearance with other tooling.
  8. Reattach electric line to switch - there is no need to adjust the switch.

One TPCA clamp can be configured for single or dual arms. Arms can be swapped or replaced in the field.

Watch the video to learn how to convert a dual arm clamp into a single arm clamp.


Step by Step Instructions

  1. Cycle the Clamp to the CLOSED Position.
  2. Remove all Electric and Air Lines from the clamp.
    WARNING - Do NOT work on or around power clamps which have electric and air lines connected.
  3. Remove the screw and nut from the clamp arm(s).
  4. Use a rubber mallet to carefully remove a clamp arm.
  5. Make sure the pins on the hub are aligned flush with each other. Push or pull any pins which may need to be adjusted.
  6. Attach a single arm cap or a second clamp arm to the pin hub.
  7. Reinstall the nut on the arm side of the clamp.
  8. Install and tighten down the screw. (Use a longer screw for a dual arm configuration, or a smaller screw for a single arm configuration.)
  9. Torque the screw to the specifications shown in the Arm Screw Torque Chart.
